I am a 24-year old peanutbutterloving-psychologystudent-aspiringyogi-futurenurse in Halifax, NS about to embark on possibly the most life-changing 30(ish) days: a 30-day moksha yoga challenge / 21-day cleanse. I am using this opportunity to try other new things, starting with: a blog following my journey!
This blog is 'the peanut butter diet' because
- I love peanut butter.
- This 21-day cleanse strips almost every other protein that is currently part of my diet.
- Although I will introduce myself to many new and exciting vegan proteins - let's face it, I'm a peanut butter girl to the core!
- Let's face it - it sounds awesome.
This coming Wednesday I start the 30-Day Challenge at Moksha Yoga Halifax. I've been practicing more and more at home and at the studio - what better way to start off summer than sweating like a freezie in a sauna once, twice a day?? I can't wait to explore my practice and push the limits every day for the month of June - and hopefully continue!
Along with the challenge comes a 21-day cleanse - which I have to admit, am starting four days late (June 5) because I am headed home to PEI for a wedding! Another cleanser is starting late for a lobster dinner, my excuse is totally valid! Especially given the list of things I will be abstaining from for 21 days:
- All meat and animal products, including all dairy products (this should be a piece of cake for a girl who drinks four litres of milk every two days ... )
- Alcohol (another reason for the post-wedding start)
- All sugar except honey and maple syrup
- Gluten
-Caffeine
-Food preservatives, colors, MSG
Also, every morning I must have half a squeezed lemon in a cup of warm water, and before every meal drink the specially concocted 'cleanse tea' which Brittanie (the cleanse leader) made herself - it contains 6 herbs which I don't remember! Also having 1 tablespoon of psyllium husk in a half cup of OJ or water before bed. phew!
The last 8 days I get to slowly reintroduce foods to my diet ... it should be interesting to see how it goes! It will most likely be one of the hardest lifestyle changes I've ever made. My diet now consists largely of pasta (President's Choice white cheddar! Sidekicks! KD!) I literally have the college student diet. Now I will be going three weeks without my staple foods, cooking with new ingredients I've likely never even heard of, and watching my boyfriend Jamie eat beautiful meals of food I can't eat. I can do this ...
Right?
I have four days to get my fill of chips and candy, meat, MILK! pasta from a box, seafood, did I mention milk?? ice cream, perogies, english muffins, bagels, green tea, feta cheese ... i can't go on.
I am excited to stock the fridge and cupboards with ingredients I've never heard of and go to the market for fresh and local ... this could really be fun! I'm interested to see how well I do. As Barney Stinson would say ... Challenge accepted!
Good grief. I'll try to minimize the lame jokes too.
This 30 days is going to change the way I live and the way I relate to what I eat and what's around me. I can't wait to explore these new things and share my experiences with friends and family! Hey, maybe it'll catch on!
Before I end, a note about yoga:
Today I went to a Yin class at Moksha - it was one of Tracy's last classes so I couldn't miss it. I have to say I think that everyone, and I literally mean everyone I know should take at least one Yin yoga class sometime in their life. Thanks Tracy - good luck, you'll be missed!
