In the spirit of my challenge my first summer reading (aside from my physiology course, of course) is Buddha by Deepak Chopra:
Buddha is essentially the story of Siddhartha the prince who eventually became Gautama the wandering monk on his path to enlightenment as Buddha the Compassionate One. So far I am a huge fan - especially upon learning that Buddha's mother is Queen Maya. She is a woman so strong and so mystifying, and I just love it. Jamie kindly pointed out it's a different spelling (thanks darling), but that doesn't bother me. My favourite quote feels like something I want to take with me for the next 30 days ...
'the world could touch Maya, move her, hurt her, but never change her.'
except, you know - the whole point of doing this challenge and cleanse is to change my routines and be healthy, and change the way I relate to my mind and body... I suppose we don't really have to think of that as change so much as enhance. Or bend and stretch, constantly adjusting ever so slightly that you're in a constant state of motion - like settling into your first downward-facing dog of the day. I suppose I should say Adho Mukha Svanasana if I'm being proper ... but most of us know that takes time.
The moral of this is - I highly recommend this for anyone interested in the history of Buddha, or a story that could probably speak to anyone.
On another note - we had breakfast for dinner tonight! I love those days. Besides, I wanted to get my fill of foods I won't be able to eat on the cleanse, so here it is:
Yummmm! My parents and brother will be shocked that I actually eat eggs now - right before I have to give them up for three weeks! But this delicious ham, cheese and chives omelette (thank you Jamie!!) with a side of maple bacon and toast with peanut butter. Every single item on this plate is forbidden as of Sunday. And it was worth every delicious bite!
I did buy some tofu today. Jana inspired me to make peanut butter tofu and I just don't want to wait - that will be my experiment for dinner on Day 1 tomorrow!
I'm excited to get started tomorrow! It has been a while since I've done a regular Moksha class (don't you just love being an unemployed student?? With a VERY loving and generous mother and father!) so I am anxious to see how graceful my Dancer's pose is! I can't wait to sweat it out tomorrow.
I hope everyone got out to enjoy the beautiful weather today, and I have to say WOO HOO to everyone in Winnipeg celebrating the return of the Jets today! Yaayyy!
Good luck to everyone beginning the challenge and cleanse tomorrow!
